Catherine Hand’s first instinct to become a producer was at age 10 when she read the
book A Wrinkle in Time and thought it should be a movie. She started a letter to Walt
Disney, because he was the only person she knew who made movies for children.
Catherine was too shy to send the letter, but when Walt Disney died on December 15,
1966, she made a promise to herself to grow up and make the movie.
Becoming a Warrior is the triumphant memoir of a shy, 10-year-old girl who has a
dream and perseveres for fifty years to make that dream come true. Working in the
worlds of politics and entertainment, Catherine Hand learned lessons that gave her the
courage and strength to navigate through personal tragedies and professional hurdles.
In 2018, five decades after Hand first read A Wrinkle in Time, Walt Disney Studios
released a major motion picture based on the award-winning classic and Hand was one
of two producers on the film. The movie was directed by Ava DuVernay, written by
Jennifer Lee, and starred Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling. Becoming
a Warrior offers a treasure trove of wisdom and advice for anyone with who has a
dream. (Bold Story Press, Oct. 2022)
